Since January 2020, Saloon Barcelona aims to foster a diverse and feminist network of women artists, curators, researchers, producers and journalists working in the field of contemporary art. The main activity is a monthly meeting comprising the entire region of Catalonia, where participants discuss their work while visiting studios, exhibitions and talks. We seek to create the necessary friction to generate high quality art content, a very challenging task in a cosmopolitan city as Barcelona, where people from many nationalities, identities and backgrounds choose to live. Our goal is to promote equal opportunities and connections so the women engaged in art can start new collaborations or get benefits for their own authorial projects. Today, the growing network has a special interest in experimental practices of video, photography, art-technology, sculpture and performance, and the intersections between such languages . Workers from big and small institutions are welcome, as well as independent practitioners. Saloon Barcelona was founded by Florence Girardeau, Francele Cocco and Laia Casanova.
